Highlighter is the one break out make up product that is all the rave amongst make up lovers. Most people use it for strobing and contouring as the highlighter itself is a sparkly and glowy cream or powder-based make up product used to draw attention to the focal points of the face. Although highlighter application might seem simple, there are tricks to apply it to your face that most people don’t know of and often make mistakes in application as a result.
- Excess Amounts – when putting highlighter on, you want it to enhance your overall look rather than it be the center of your look and the only thing other people notice when they look at you. Not only will this save you the embarrassment of looking like a disco ball but your make up look won’t be compromised either.
- Layering – Even when you put a good amount of highlighter on it can still appear too concentrated when all your make up is in one area of your face. It’s better to apply the highlighter on the focal points of your face rather than all over the face in general.
- Wrong Shade of Highlighter – Highlighter is typically translucent which makes it more forgiving than foundation is if you pick a mismatched color to your skin tone. However, you still want to pick the right color to use as it can take away from the rest of the make up you’ve used to enhance your look if it’s the wrong color.
- Focusing on Wrong Places – Some people like to play up highlighter or play it down, depending on the occasion. However, if you want to know the best place to apply it, it would be your cheekbones, Cupid’s bow, inner corner of your eyes, and on the tip and bridge of your nose.
